Came out to clean a drain line from my washing machine to my dry well, they could not get the auger through claiming the first section of my pipe (under the basement floor) was metal and probably rusted. Okay, that’s fine, still charged $380. Then they suggest just re-routing my washer drain into my septic line, not a bad idea. The job requires about 20 feet of new 2” PVC ($40). A 4” into 2” adapter ($20). A few PVC hangers ($10), maybe a couple 2” PVC elbows ($8). Drilling a 2” hole in one spot of a thin basement wall to run the pipe through before it goes into the 4” line. Even estimating the PVC parts very high at $200, and a high estimate of 5 hours labor @ $100 and hour, that’s $700. Their estimate was almost $2,300 !! It’s a shame that some people are paying these outrageous prices and not getting a second opinion. It’s robbery and “Mr. Rooter” should be ashamed. I had Mr Rooter install a well pump and toilet. Tyler did a great job and was very personable and knowledgeable. After receiving an estimate that I thought was a little pricey, I got an estimate from another company and they gave me the same quote.
