We have recently bought a 1980s Victorian style home in Kingwood that we knew would need some repair, but as the old wive’s tale goes; Victorians are known to be haunted and/or incessant money pits. Plumbing issues weren’t even on our radar post buyers inspection. The day we closed, my son and I came to remove the refrigerator and washer and dryer the previous owner left behind. Upon pulling out the refrigerator we noticed significant water damage to the wall. When I attempted to turn off the angle valve to disconnect the refrigerator it started spewing water and would not shut off. I ran outside to cut water off to the house, but previous owner had wrapped it in a maze of old blankets, felt, and garbage bags 8 inches thick and I had no utility knife to cut through it quickly. On to cutting water off at the meter; we open it up and note there is a leak at the meter and it’s full of fire ants… I couldn’t find any new neighbor with a tool to shut it off either.
