After the April 2022 (year has been corrected from original post) hailstorm in Salado, we entered into a contract for residential roof replacement with Knowater Roofing. Knowater provided an estimate of $25,500, but wanted a $15,000 down payment before materials were even delivered onsite. Owner assured us that it was not uncommon for roofing companies to request a 50% down payment. He was asking for a 60% down payment! After seeing that the Texas Department of Insurance website cautions consumers to be wary if a contractor asks for a large or full down payment, we should have run from this company then. But foolishly, I liked the idea of using a local, veteran-owned company. I told owner Luke that I would only pay $4,000 down payment, which he agreed to. Company started removing the old roof on July 1st, 2022 (year has been corrected from original post).
