Lacking communication led to frustration, misunderstandings, avoidable mistakes, and additional charges. As far as the roof is concerned, we are satisfied with the final outcome, so we could see hiring TR again if we knew that we had the time to supervise the project. These are the problems we encountered: - We were not informed during the project that dry-rot repairs exceeded the amount in the contract. This means that extra charges for dry-rot replacement in the invoice were not approved and, therefore, not legal according to the contract. - If the crew had informed us of the additional dry-rot repairs and gotten approval as per the contract, we might have also discussed the warped plywood replacement prior to the crew installing new shingles on said plywood, effectively avoiding the entire miscommunication and additional repair charges. - TR blamed us for their mistake. If we were responsible for catching their crew's errors before they made them, we would also be on TR's payroll. -
