Plumbing Masters: Plumbing, Drains & Water Heaters

Earlier this week I got a call from my wife as I got to work. She told me the shower arm, the pipe that comes out of the wall, had broken and water was shooting out of the wall. I left and spent the day waiting for a large plumbing company to send a plumber out. While I was waiting I looked up the cost for that type of repair, between $75 - $150. When the plumbers arrived they told me "it could be cheap or it could be expensive?" He told me that he "had made a tool" to pull out pipes that had broken. He went to his van and came back with an estimate and a story. The estimate was for over $1,000 that included opening the wall, replacing 5 feet of piping. (Realize he had done nothing but looked at the pipe coming out of the wall. He hadn't touched or tried to diagnose how the shower arm was damaged, or tried to take it out) He explained that the tool he "made" was lost so he would have to open up the wall.
