My wife and I had three major jobs that needed doing, as well as a few minor jobs. We live in a two-bedroom condo in Jupiter and both do quite a lot of work at home on our dining room table. We needed a better filing system than file boxes piled on top of each other and piled paper strewn over the table. Under our stairway, which is opposite the table, is where our HVAC unit is located. This area under the staircase was enclosed, with two narrow bi-fold doors allowing direct access to the HVAC unit. The remaining space beneath the staircase as it descends, however, was essentially wasted. Our idea was to buy a Pottery Barn filing cabinet (it looks more like a dresser than a traditional filing cabinet), embed it into the wall beneath the lower end of the staircase so that none of it protrudes into our living space, and widen the access door to enable access not only to the HVAC unit but to the embedded, back end of the filing cabinet and the storage area around it.
